Click here for the aurora video from the Japanese webcam near Chatanika, Alaska, on Jan 25, 2013. It was a great night, as we haven’t seen the aurora this big in awhile. Of course, it still was a mostly quiet night. This season has been a little slow.
Unsettled quiet aurora activity on the webcams, but parts of Fairbanks and North Pole are overcast. If you have no clouds, you might see the aurora on the horizon. Current temp is -10F, considerably warmer than a few hours ago. Kp 1
Quiet unsettled displays predicted for tonight. This means that there probably will be an aurora, but it will be weak and short-lived (unknown timeframe). And how about those temperatures out there! -47F in North Pole, Alaska
The next few nights are predicted to be quiet also. Chance of snow with overcast skies mid-week will also hinder our chances of aurora watching.
the aurora is out as reported from Moose Creek south of North Pole, out of the fog. Big bands. Just as soon as I typed this, the strength diminished. Kp level is 1. The aurora may or may not produce a better show tonight that what we just saw very briefly.
