How to forecast the northern lights

Here is a great read about how to forecast the aurora from Astronomynorth.com.

They updated their website, but the original website article stated: “this means in the North it is very rare that you will see NOTHING in the sky over the course of 24 hours”. We do see the aurora all the time in Fairbanks, Alaska, but many times it is weak or low on the horizon, and comes out in the middle of the night, so many people simply do not notice it.
