Auroras incoming!
Auroras incoming tonight due to a coronal hole high speed stream. As of this post Northern Ireland seeing the lights. Other northern areas be ready. The upper portion of the contiguous United States may see aurora tonight. Canada and Alaska may see fabulous overhead displays. Other areas look north and look low on horizon if not overhead. The current Kp level is 3 and we may see Kp 5 tonight. The next 3 nights looking great for northern lights! Time of this post 225 pm Alaska time.
Auroras were seen this morning in the Fairbanks area as the clouds cleared. What a great snow storm we had! Hopefully you got some good sleep, and stayed warm. My power went out multiple times and thought it best to leave the computer and ABN Aurora Cam off. It is now back up and running waiting to capture the show tonight. Here is a tip: if you can’t stay up late to catch the lights, get up early instead. If it’s still dark out, you may be able to see the aurora before the sun rises. Always look north, north east first, if not overhead. ~Amy
