Last night’s aurora
Last night we did get a show. It started off faint. It just hovered in a big band beginning around 12:15am. I found a parking spot in the Goldstream Valley (Fairbanks) and watched the aurora strengthen. It quietly danced and occasionally burst and showed color. Alerts were sent out, but the aurora did remain mostly faint for some time. It did get brighter, and there was a grand finale of sorts, a big show lasting only a couple minutes at the end. Then the lights got faint again, and quietly displayed themselves overhead in the Fairbanks area until the 4am sun started to rise.
Aurora reports came in to us via text, Facebook messages, and private messages from these locations:
Fairbanks, North Pole, Eielson AFB, Ft Wainwright, Tok, Delta, Two Rivers, Talkeetna, Palmer, Wasilla, Eagle River, Chugiak, Anchorage, JBER, Kenai.
Even though the Kp level remained relatively low, a 2 on average, almost the whole state saw the show.
