Nice show on Sept 30, then snow

The aurora was beautiful on the night of Sept 30/ Oct 1. It was seen from many locations in Alaska. The forecast had called for a geomagnetic storm days before from a CHHSS and a CME arriving at the same time. Although we saw aurora around the aurora zone a few nights ago in Alaska, we had trending northward Bz.

Reds and rainbow colors were seen early, but it was faint to the eye most the night. Daily, the forecast changed, and finally we saw good sustained activity when the CME arrived and the Bz went southward. Solar winds were in the 500’s km/sec, and the weather was actually clear in most of Alaska!
