Kp 3 looking good for lights in Alaska tonight

Did you see the lights last night? Fairbanks was mostly clouded over and the roads were slick….but the aurora showed itself all night long in between the clouds. Anchorage and Kenai saw the lights all the way to sunrise!

Tonight the forecast is Kp 2, currently at Kp 3. The weather is clearer tonight and Fairbanks should see lights when its dark. Anchorage is a maybe, it might be possible to see the lights low on the horizon to the north.

Tomorrow night (Oct 20/21) we might see Kp 4.

The cold has arrived in interior Alaska, and Rod’s Alaskan Guide Service is ready to take reservations for this winter. Dates can be confirmed as soon as there is enough snow on the ground. When visiting North Pole, Alaska to see the northern lights, enjoy your day with a snowmobile tour!

auroras tonight, Oct 13/14! G2 Kp 6

The coronal hole high speed stream continues and tonight’s aurora forecast is great! Kp 6.
Auroras are currently being seen across Canada, Wisconsin, and Minnesota as of this writing. Other northern states be on the lookout. Alaska, lights expected as soon as it gets dark, weather permitting.

aurora update for Oct 10

Aurora update from NOAA Space Wx…..The G1 storm forecast is extended to Oct 11/12/13. Tonight’s forecast is still Kp 5, however we are not yet at the elevated levels, it is moving up slowly… Clouds will block the aurora, so you must drive away from any weather….It has been raining and snowing in Fairbanks and the interior all day long. Clouds predicted in Anchorage as well. Canada and the northern states be ready ALL NIGHT LONG and tomorrow night for auroras.

The number one question I get is “what time?”. The answer is anytime it is dark but typically close to midnight. It could happen until the sun rises!

Kp 5 predicted for Oct 10/11

Be on the lookout for auroras Oct 10/11. The forecast is calling for G1 storm conditions (Kp 5) due to the anticipated arrival of a recurrent, polar-connected, positive polarity CHHSS.

All of Canada, Alaska, and the upper portion of the contiguous USA have a good chance at seeing auroras. Look to the north, and have no light pollution in your way. Northern Europe including northern Scotland, Ireland, and Iceland also be ready for lights. Let’s hope the weather is clear.

Tonight’s forecast for Oct 8/9 is Kp 2. Poor weather conditions in Fairbanks will most likely block our view of the lights. If the clouds clear, even just a bit, look to the north, northeast anytime it is dark.

Many times I get messages from visitors and tourists who are desperate to see the northern lights but the weather is bad, or they are confused where to go, what to do. Aside from looking at for general info,  IF YOU ARE A VISITOR TO FAIRBANKS AND ARE CONFUSED, or you have traveled somewhere to see the lights and you are seemingly getting conflicting info…. YOU ARE WELCOME TO SEND ME A TEXT ANYTIME AND I WILL TRY MY BEST TO ANSWER YOU! Text only please, no calls. ~Amy 19073857385 NO CALLS
